Traveling is something that most people would like to do. A lucky few get to travel to exotic places around the world. Try saving a little bit of money and set a goal. It doesn’t matter if you plan on going somewhere domestic or international. A piggy bank is a great way to start. Spare change adds up fast! If you have no money to spare don’t fret. A hike in the woods or a short trip to view local sites, can be just as fulfilling!
Only pack the essentials. The less you carry with you, the less chance you have of losing something. Bring as few shoes with you as possible; they are heavy and take up lots of room in your luggage.
When packing for your trip, make a list of the essentials and stick to that list. Pack in advance if you can. If you simply throw all of the items you think you’ll need into your bag the night before, you’ll end up with over-sized heavy luggage that will be difficult to transport.
If you plan to travel for more than a weekend, inform your bosses two weeks prior to leaving so that they can find someone to cover your responsibilities before hand. Because security does not allow you to lock your luggage, you run the risk of the zippers coming undone and your belongings leaving a trail across the country and around the baggage claim. To help prevent this, use zip ties, which hold the zipper together, but can easily be cut off (with little cost to you) by security, if necessary.
When traveling and sleeping in hotels, considering bringing along a small portable fan. This will allow you to create white noise, should you have a noisy neighbor. It can also help circulate the air in a stuffy room without needing to chill the room to uncomfortable levels using the air conditioner.
If you are traveling with a laptop and plan to spend a lot of time in your hotel room, pack an A/C cable in your laptop case. If the room features an HDTV, you can use the cable to connect your computer to the television. This allows you to stream movies from Netflix or Hulu to your laptop, then watch them on the larger screen. It is definitely cheaper than paying five bucks a pop for video rental.
Make sure you make the most of your destination vacation. Many hotels will book travel excursions for you, including picking you up at the hotel and dropping you back off. Tour operators are usually affiliated with the hotels so you may rest assured that you are in good hands.
Traveling can be easy and something that works for everybody, no matter what the budget looks like. Things that require little effort, yet are satisfying, are often the best way to go and traveling can fit that bill! So plan a trip, set a timeline and make it happen.
